About the seminar

A high number of cyclone resistant dwellings projects have been implemented in the coastal regions of Bangladesh in the past 40 years. But the provisioning process of different agencies differs in implementation and design and suffers from a lack of coordination. We have been conducting a comparative study of alternative models of cyclone resistant dwellings and settlement forms that have been/are being implemented by agencies of all sectors (government, international donors, local NGOs and civil society organisations). The objective is to identify and promote the design features and implementation practices that are most effective for sustainable livelihood promotion in locations that are highly vulnerable to extreme weather events such as cyclones and storm surges. This seminar will be a presentation of the data collected over the past 2 months and collaborative discussion on the initial findings.
