The Strengthening Partnerships on Capacity Building and Finance for Local Climate Change Adaptation in Bangladesh
The Strengthening Partnerships on Capacity Building and Finance for Local Climate Change Adaptation in Bangladesh project was initiated in December 2013 and ended in March 2014. The project was funded by the British High Commission and was implemented by ICCCAD in partnership with Action Research for Community Adaptation in Bangladesh (ARCAB), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)/ Poverty Environment Climate Mainstreaming (PECM) project of General Economics Division, Government of Bangladesh. The aim of the project was to foster and strengthen partnerships to improve the overall system for effective and participatory planning, financing, and governance of local level adaptation to climate change in Bangladesh.
The project promoted improved coordination and the development of a more mainstreamed national framework for local-level climate adaptation through seminars, workshops and reports. It raised awareness among policymakers, the media, and the public of the need for more support to local and community-based adaptation activities. The primary audiences included: NGOs, government agencies, and multinational organizations; policymakers capable of influencing the nationwide approach to climate change; and the international community, which could use the Bangladesh experience as a model for other countries.
The Scoping Project on Good Governance of Climate Change Adaptation in Bangladesh
The Scoping Project on Good Governance of Climate Change Adaptation in Bangladesh was made possible by the Asia Foundation (TAF) and implemented by ICCCAD. The goal of the project was to develop a long term program and galvanizing multi-stakeholder support to improve the governance of climate change adaptation programming in Bangladesh. It did this through a scoping study that included stakeholder mapping and consultations, reviewing of existing initiatives on climate change in Bangladesh, and donor perception mapping.
Objectives of the project included:
- Identify gaps, conflicts/overlaps and develop a scope of work for the long term program;
- Explore and build/strengthen relationships with different stakeholders and development partners, for technical and financial support for the multi-year program;
- Design the long term program for good governance in climate change adaptation in Bangladesh, and;
- Develop the final proposal for the first 5 year phase of the long term program.
