The next instalment of the ICCCAD Seminar Series will be taking place at 3 pm on Thursday, December 4. Huraera Jabeen will be speaking on a seminar titled “Adapting to the built Environment: The role of gender in shaping vulnerability and resilience to climate extremes in Dhaka”.
About the seminar
Huraera will discuss the inter-relations between the built environment, gender and climate change change adaptation using case-studies from low-income households living in informal settlements of Dhaka and Khulna. She will also explore the form of adaptation applicable in urban areas of Bangladesh.
About the speaker
Huraera Jabeen is a Bixby Research Fellow at the Population Council, New York. She holds a Ph.D. in International Development and Policy Management from the University of Manchester and was previously a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Architecture, BRAC University, Bangladesh. She has over 12 years of teaching and professional experience in urban poverty and the built environment. Her research interest includes climate change adaptation, gender, and the built environment. Her work focuses on poverty alleviation, empowerment and capacity-building through local partnership with communities.
