The next instalment of the ICCCAD Seminar Series will take place at 3:00 pm on Thursday, November 12 at the ICCCAD Office. Dr. Karsten Schroeder and Kamrun Nahar will be presenting in a seminar titled ‘Jatropha: Its potential to cope with climate change in Bangladesh’.

About the seminar

While various research institutions in Bangladesh have been looking into potentials of Jatropha Curcas (local name: Bagh Verenda, Ban Verenda, Chanda, Jamalgota, Sadajeol, Baron; Arenda (Chittagong)) not much has been heard lately about further steps to make use of this promising plant. Benefits for local farmers have been described in literature, yet production of J. Curcas has not been implemented at locations where the plant will benefit from its low demands in terms of soil fertility and water demand.

In the seminar, based on a presentation on the present status of Jatropha research in Bangladesh and elsewhere, questions will be discussed regarding taking steps forward to make use of this promising plant at suitable locations.
