This week’s instalment of the ICCCAD Seminar Series will be taking place at 3 pm on Thursday, October 2 at the ICCCAD Baridhara Office. Nathan Sage and Shayan Shafi from USAID Bangladesh will be presenting in a seminar titled ‘USAID Bangladesh’s Climate Change and Environment Activities’. Nathan will speak on USAID’s natural resources management, climate adaptation and sustainable landscapes/REDD projects meanwhile Shayan will talk about USAID:s clean energy projects.
About the Speakers:
Nathan Sage is an Environment Officer in USAID Bangladesh Office of Economic Growth. Mr. Sage has 20 years experience in biodiversity, climate change and disaster risk reduction. Prior to joining USAID Foreign Service in 2012, Nathan was the Southeast Asia Program Advisor at the Pacific Disaster Center, managed by the University of Hawaii. From 2005 to 2008, Nathan was the first Environment, Science, Technology and Health Officer at U.S. Embassy-Hanoi. From 2002 to 2005, Mr. Sage worked as the USAID Vietnam Environment Program Manager, where he managed a dozen public-private partnerships in urban environmental governance. Mr. Sage has also worked or consulted for BirdLife International, CARE, IUCN, UNCTAD, UNDP, the World Bank, World Wildlife Fund, and private sector initiatives, including his start-up venture Indochina Carbon. Mr. Sage holds a MA from the University of Rhode Island in marine affairs/coastal management and a BA in Political Science from Trinity College (CT). Mr. Sage received a J. William Fulbright Fellowship for his research on the human ecology of coastal resources in Con Dao Island, Vietnam.
Shayan Shafi is as an Energy Specialist in USAID Bangladesh Office of Economic Growth. He has 6 years of experience in the field of conventional and renewable energy, carbon project development, energy efficiency, conservation and energy auditing services. Prior to joining USAID, Mr. Shayan served Rahimafrooz Renewable Energy Ltd. – a pioneer private renewable energy company of Bangladesh. During his tenure at Rahimafrooz, he was also directly involved in three Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects, worked as lead energy auditor in different energy programs of German International Cooperation (GIZ) and International Finance Corporation (IFC), and worked with Department of Environment of Bangladesh as Consultant in the Capacity Building and Baseline Development in Power and Energy Sector of Bangladesh project. Mr. Shayan holds a B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering from Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Bangladesh, a Masters in Business Administration (MBA), majoring in Finance from the University of Dhaka and the global Project Management Professional (PMP) credential from Project Management Institute, USA.
