About the seminar
Uwe has been a Visiting Researcher at ICCCAD for the last two months. He came to Bangladesh to do the fieldwork for his Masters Thesis. The thesis aims to uncover the forms of self-organisation as well as the vertical hierarchies used to maintain livelihoods and certain levels of resilience within a slum in Dhaka. He selected Bhola bosti in Pallabi, Mirpur as his study area, which is also a study site for GIBIKA project. His research included several visits to the site where he conducted interviews and focus group discussions with slum residents as well as interviews with some of the NGOs active in that area. Uwe will present his findings on the social structure of the slum, power relations and the role that self-organisation and hierarchies play.
