The International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), together with the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) in Japan, is going to organize a one-day policy dialogue on “Carbon Emission Pathways for Bangladesh” in Dhaka on Sunday 24 January 2016. IGES is non-profit organization established under an initiative of the Japan Government. The planned policy dialogue is part of IGES activities on enhancing the linkage between research and climate policymaking particularly in the developing countries. With financial support from the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, IGES has been actively involved in such capacity building activities in several Asian developing countries including Cambodia and Indonesia. Based on the positive experiences from these countries, the geographical scope of the initiative has been expanded and starting from this year, IGES would like to initiate similar capacity building activities in Bangladesh through its local partner ICCCAD.
The intended Policy Dialogue is planned to focus, firstly, on updating climate change related policies, activities and researches in Bangladesh, and second, on international experiences on science-based research and integrated climate policy making. We intend this policy dialogue to be an effective venue for discussions on the above among representatives from the governmental offices, academic and research communities, sectoral experts as well as representatives from NGOs and private sector. Several guests from Japan and the UK will also join the policy dialogue to share their experiences particular on the use of analytical methodologies for policy making.
