Sajal_Roy_PhotoSajal Roy is currently pursuing doctoral studies at the Western Sydney University’s Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) with the thesis entitled Long-term Effects of Extreme Weather Events on Rural Livelihoods and Gender Relations: A Case Study of the Aila Cyclone’s Impacts on Shora and Munda Sundarbans Forest Communities in Bangladesh. Since fall 2014 to date, he has been serving as a lecturer (On study leave) in Women and Gender Studies at the Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, Bangladesh. By training, he holds an Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Gender and Development from the University of Bergen, Norway and a Master degree (Distinction) in Women and Gender Studies from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Immediately after the completion of MPhil degree in 2013, he started serving as a Senior Research Associate at the Research and Evaluation Department (RED) of BRAC International’s operation in Sub-Saharan African countries i.e., Sudan, Sierra Leone and Liberia. His areas of research interest comprise of society and culture, gender studies, feminist political ecology, gender and disaster studies, and international development. As an early career researcher, his key competencies lie between applications of social research methods into development projects of the NGOs and impact evaluation of climate change-related projects.
